We Are The World, We Are The Children!

so last night i was watching tv and i saw a bunch of famous people looking fabulous and airbrushed, sitting around dramatically in a room. ellen degeneres said something about making an impact, doing something important - i think. then alicia keys blurbed about children. i usually skip the ads but this looks interesting. i pause.

because for the last few weeks i have been feeling like a bit of a waste. there is so much to do out there and i am stressing about how snug my trousers are - just in time for the summer - and how i still can't stop snacking on the mind boggling amount of chocolate in my little home. i am wondering what happened to the dreams of philanthropy i had a few years ago when i thought - to hell with rent, my life must mean something! what can i do?

yeah... then at some point i decided that shallow was easier to achieve than meaningful.

but recently, philanthropy is nagging... i think things like - you have aids orphan girl children (and probably other affected girls) who miss about a week of school a month because they cannot afford underwear to house any kind of makeshift sanitary pad when they are on their periods. i mean... who even thinks of that?

so back to commercial. i hear something about sending in ideas for a cause/project and american express funding it - up to five million dollars. FIVE MILLION DOLLARS! i know in the uk and europe that is like half of nothing these days but i'm excited. ideas bursting out my pores, i have so many...

all i have to do?

be a member.

Speaking about Amex, etc

I read a stat somewhere that the actual money spent, promoting Product Red, (You know, the Bono, Oprah thing, With Red Ipod's and Red Phones).

Apparently, the amount of money-spent advertising is well more than 4 times the actual amount the project has donated to charities.

BAE Systems (A British arms manufacturer) secretly paid more than £1bn into an account controlled by Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia to secure weapons sales.

Do you know how much the Iraq war costs EVERY DAY?

Tell the "airbrushed personalities" to go to hell.

oh tu... it's brilliant - philanthropy tied into corporate america.

that red campaign was dodgy from the start. you pay $45 for a tank top that says ti(red) and they never tell you how much of that they are planning on giving to charity - "a portion of the proceeds". it is a crock! only apple was clear - $5 for every red nano sold. from all the (red) paraphanelia i see walking the streets of america, i think someone made out well...

amen oscar.
how much it costs every day and ask how well damaged soldiers are treated by those who send them out there upon their return. walter read? living in cars? pstd?

i think suffer little children is being taken literally...

I get this same feelings every year around my birthday. I reflect on what I have done with my life and just feel like I should be giving more and doing more to help make the world a better place.

Question...

If i bought a Red Nano, can I claim that on my tax return????

After all "some" of the money is going to charity..........

what is the cure for all of this. maybe american express is right and all i need to solve the world's problems (since i am not famous) is be a cardmember.

tu - i believe that it was $10 that apple gave. go ahead and claim. you do have your nano receipt right?

I saw that ad too with Alicia Keys, Ellen Degeneres... and liked it.

I'm tryna rack my brains to find time to volunteer and where to volunteer at, just something small for the community...

Thanks for reinforcing the idea(this is like a confirmation I need to indulge in some volunteer work no?)

lol! dodos, too true...

well prettylyf, if you are inspired to do good and not to get a credit card and spend then it is a good thing. i hope that in life in general i give of myself all the time.

i hope...
